It was a Success!

It's been a little bit since I blogged last, so I wanted to catch you all up to speed.
So, the next step of our process was to do the following:
  • Meet with the agency's chosen psychologist for a Psychological Screening (for both Jeff and I)
  • Meet with the agency and review the future steps, discuss the contract and get any unanswered questions that we may have had answered
Friday, Jeff and I caught our flight to Indiana to accomplish the above two tasks.  Originally, our flight was to leave at 10:15 in the morning...this gave us enough time to calmly get our boys to my mom's house (that is who was watching them) and then get us in a timely fashion to the airport.  However, that must have seemed too easy to the above powers...as I ended up having a courtesy call at 3am from Continental Airlines and was on the phone with them for over an hour (as one agent hung up by accident and I had to start all over) - but we caught a new flight that left at 7am (which made quite the rush in the morning) but we landed in IN at 12:20 safely!  This was the first time that I was away from Tatum and Gavin (our boys) so I was very nervous and very sad to be leaving them for the entire weekend...but I knew that it was for such an awesome cause and they were in the best possible hands.  My mom and dad were watching the boys and Jeff and I had nothing to worry about...
Our schedule was as follows while in IN:  (1)  Meet with Psychologist on Saturday from 8:30 - 3:00ish and (2)  Meet with the Agency on Sunday at 9:00am.  So - arriving early on Friday at 12:20pm was nice because we actually had time to look around the Indianapolis area and have lunch, then we checked into our hotel and whatelse would two parents do with no kids...WE SLEPT!  Haha...we took a 4 hour nap (didn't really plan for it to be that long)...but it was seriously needed.  When we awoke, we had a nice dinner and then went back to the room and SLEEP!  So, Friday was a nice day to catch up on some needed Zzzzz's!
Saturday morning came quite fast and we woke in the morning, got ready and headed for Indianapolis again to meet the Psychologist.  We knew it was going to be a long day full of testing; however we were unaware of exactly what kind of testing.  We ended up taking 5 Total Psychiatric Tests (1 about our marriage (about 150 questions), 3 about anything and everything (one being 560 questions, one being 185 questions and one being 178 questions), and lastly a Picture Test where we had to write a short story about what we saw in the picture.  During this time, the Dr. met individually with Jeff and I for interviews about our life.  Although it was a LONG day; it was very interesting and it was another step closer to becomming a Surrogate Parent!  Once our tests and interviews were complete, the Dr. sat down with Jeff and I and explained that a very small percentage of applicants actually make it through to be a Surrogate Mother.  It is about 1-2% of the women that end up actually being able to move forward...and...he thought that we were perfect for it!  Without even looking at our results, he was confident that Jeff and I would make a fantastic Surrogate Family for an intended couple.  This made me so excited and so happy as I know now that we can move forward with the process.
After the long day of testing, Jeff and I enjoyed a couples massage, nice early dinner and then went to the movies and saw "I am Number Four".  Great movie and a great day!
Sunday we woke up, packed all of our belongings, checked out of the hospital and headed to Surrogate Mothers, Inc in IN.  This was the day that we were meeting with our agency!  I was so excited as I was finally able to put faces to the names and voices that I've been constantly talking to as we all know I have a million, trillion questions all of the time.  Upon arriving at SMI, Jeff and I met with the individuals at the agency and went over all needed documents and all of our questions were answered.  It was so incredible meeting with the agency and knowing that we are really going to do this and we are finally going to have contact with the couple that has chosen us!
We left the agency and headed back to airport in hopes to find an earlier flight home; only to learn that our original flight was DELAYED and our connection flight to Bradley was going to be missed.  We finally found a flight that brought us into La Guardia (NYC) and we had to drive the remaining part of the trip home.  Not a fantastic way to end a great trip...but oh well.  We made it home!
Jeff and I arrived home late Sunday night to a sleeping 1 year old and a sleeping 3 and a half year old.  Tatum woke up and was so excited to see us.  Gavin didn't wake up but it was just so nice to hold him again...he looked sooo much bigger (after only 2 days!)
Next Steps:
  • Couple to reach out to Jeff and I via phone or email
  • Us to sign the Contract and get it back to Surrogate Mothers, Inc (SMI)
  • Me to travel to Oregon to meet with the Clinic, learn the procedures and get the injections
Talk to you all soon!!!
